The Cotswolds
The Cotswolds is one of Englands most beautiful regions and also one of its most popular holiday destinations.
A designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with picturesque rolling hills and countryside, honey coloured buildings and famous cities such as Bath and Cheltenham. The Cotswolds offer every kind of activity from cycling and walking to gliding and horse racing.
Bourton-on-the-Water
Bourton-on-the-Water, one of the most famous and prettiest villages of the Cotswolds, is located at the hub of the area so is an ideal base from which to explore.
Known as "The Venice of the Cotswolds" it is the only one of the six famous Cotswold villages (Bourton-on-the-water, Broadway, Burford, Chipping Campden, Moreton-in-Marsh and Stow-on-the-Wold) to have a river meandering through the main street. This is crisscrossed by small footbridges and populated by wildfowl.
On all sides are charming Cotswold buildings of honey-coloured stone, mellowed by age and softened by foliage. The centuries roll back and it is easy to envisage the appearance of an English village in a bygone era. Places of interest in Bourton include Birdland, the Motor and Toy Museum, the Perfumery, the Model Village and the Dragonfly Maze.
Bourton-on-the-Water is an ideal base for exploring the Cotswolds and Shakespeare country. Oxford, Cheltenham Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick are all within an easy drive. Bourton boasts an excellent range of local amenities with a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants within 200 yards.
